Inspiration
There is no easy way to collaborate or curate information about a specific topic, especially when away from home. Collaboration platforms or tools like Google Docs has been the go-to for many users in curating information but do not foster community building and do not enforce the addition of quality content. Looking outside, open source has greatly changed the software industry contributing to massive open innovation. We see an opportunity to apply this validated open source concept to non-technical areas beyond the software industry as a form of innovation.
What it does
SyncHub is an information control system and collaboration platform for all Singaporeans. SyncHub facilitates social information gathering through an intuitive interface and gamification. By harnessing the power of open source, SyncHub empowers anybody to start a project and work together with members of their community to curate comprehensive and the most up-to-date information.
How we built it
Initially, we drew out the lo-fidelity sketches of the design of the app. We then proceeded to make interactive wireframes using Figma that explains the entire user journey of how the app is being used by our target audience. Each user journey and feature is accurately designed to solve the pain points faced by our users. After conducting user testing, we added features to overcome the limitations of our solution.
Challenges we ran into
Finding Singaporeans who stay abroad to conduct user interviews for testing. However, we tapped on our networks and ultimately able to conduct interviews with a few of them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We followed closely to the design thinking process that enabled us to pinpoint specific problems that users face, allowing us to come up with solutions that address them.
- A complete Figma mock-ups showing our solution.
What we learned
- A thorough design thinking process is crucial to product design.
- Problem-solve first, then code.
What's next for SyncHub
- Build a minimum viable product (MVP) of our solution.
- Make further iterations on MVP based on user feedback.
