About SyncHRise
Inspiration
Modern organizations rely on dozens of SaaS applications such as GitHub, Slack, Google Workspace, AWS, and Microsoft 365. When an employee leaves, IT teams often have to manually revoke access from each platform. This process is repetitive, time-consuming, and prone to human error. A single missed account can become a serious security risk.
We wanted to build a platform that doesn't just automate offboarding, but also provides visibility, verification, and confidence that every access revocation has been completed successfully.
What it does
SyncHRise is an identity lifecycle and employee offboarding automation platform. It orchestrates access removal across integrated systems, generates audit logs, provides execution previews before making changes, and verifies that access has actually been revoked.
The platform currently includes:
- Automated GitHub organization offboarding using GitHub Apps
- Identity Execution Preview before execution
- Risk scoring for offboarding operations
- Real-time execution tracking
- Replay timeline for reviewing every execution step
- Audit logging for compliance and traceability
- Access Reconciliation to verify expected vs. actual access after execution
The architecture is designed to support additional enterprise integrations such as Slack, Google Workspace, AWS IAM, Microsoft Entra ID, and many more.
How we built it
SyncHRise was built using:
- Next.js (App Router) for the frontend and API routes
- AWS DynamoDB for event, audit, employee, integration, and reconciliation data
- AWS Lambda for asynchronous offboarding workflows
- GitHub Apps API for secure organization access management
- AWS SDK v3 for cloud integration
- Tailwind CSS for the enterprise dashboard UI
- Vercel for deployment
The project follows a modular architecture where integrations, execution logic, audit logging, simulations, and reconciliation are separated into reusable services, making it easy to extend to new providers.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was implementing GitHub App authentication correctly. Managing installation tokens, organization permissions, and dynamically resolving installation IDs required several iterations before achieving a reliable workflow.
Another challenge was designing a scalable execution pipeline. We needed a way to execute offboarding actions asynchronously while keeping the user interface responsive and providing real-time feedback through execution timelines and audit logs.
We also spent considerable effort refining the data model to balance simplicity with extensibility, ensuring the platform could grow beyond GitHub to support multiple enterprise identity providers.
What we learned
Building SyncHRise provided hands-on experience with enterprise identity governance concepts, GitHub Apps, asynchronous cloud workflows, AWS serverless architecture, and secure API design.
We also learned that successful identity automation isn't only about executing actions—it also requires verification, auditability, and transparency. Features such as execution previews, replay timelines, and access reconciliation significantly improve trust in automated identity operations.
What's next
Our roadmap includes:
- Slack, Google Workspace, AWS IAM, Microsoft Entra ID, and Okta integrations
- AI-powered Shadow AI discovery and governance
- Advanced access reconciliation across all connected providers
- Compliance reporting for SOC 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR
- Predictive risk scoring based on access sensitivity
- Enterprise policy engine for customizable offboarding workflows
Our vision is to evolve SyncHRise into a unified identity governance platform that enables organizations to automate, verify, and audit employee lifecycle operations from a single dashboard.
