Inspiration
Have you ever wanted to do something but no one to do it with, for example, going on a hike, playing a sport, hitting a lift, a movie? Sync up is the daily connection app that links students in their college that have similar interests by allowing them to create events and others to RSVP.
What it does
Currently as of 10/29/23, the app doesn't work, however the intended use of this app was to allow users to see other events students have created and allow them to easily subscribe and filter through the events they are interested in. It would reward users for actually participating in this event and meant as a daily activity as events are terminated every day.
How I built it
We attempted to build this using React-Native for the front end, Clerk for user authentication, and Convex for the back end.
Challenges I ran into
Most of our challenges lay in getting React-Native to fully work and ran into a lot of dependency issues. We were able to integrate convex to our idea but hadn't gotten far enough to connect it with our front end. We also were under a time crunch as we spent the first day coming up with an idea and also had to deal with spotty wifi throughout the whole event.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Doing a hackathon, this was both of our first hackathon so we learned a lot on how it works and how we can do better in the future. Also of how we eventually came up with an idea and a plan and even through many of the obstacles we experienced we tried to push through.
What I learned
As mentioned before, we both learned a lot about what it takes to complete a working project in a hackathon. We learned a lot about the importance of collaboration and the heavy reliance on team work.
What's next for Sync Up
We may decide to finish this idea in the future so stay tuned for more!
