Inspiration: The inspiration for Synapse AI came from looking at our neighborhoods like a disconnected neural network. In a brain, intelligence comes from connections (synapses) between neurons. In our cities, we have the "neurons"—engineers, teachers, and students—but we lack the connections. Statistics show that 1 in 3 Americans don’t know their next-door neighbor’s name. In STEM education, this broken circuit is tragic. A student might be failing physics while a retired physicist lives two doors down. We built Synapse AI to repair these connections, asking: How can we use AI to transmit knowledge across the "air gap" between neighbors?

What it does Synapse AI is a hyper-local learning network that democratizes access to STEM resources. It functions as the "connective tissue" of a community:

Intelligent Signal Matching: Users broadcast signals (needs) or transmit offers. Our Gemini Pro integration acts as the neurotransmitter, semantically matching a student asking for "Coding Help" with a neighbor offering "Python Mentorship," even if they use different terminology.

Resource Transmission: We facilitate the moneyless transfer of hardware. Idle resources—like graphing calculators, laptops, or textbooks—can be lent to students who need them, removing financial barriers to education.

Emergency Response Loop: Our "Emergency Broadcast" feature creates a rapid response network. If a user signals a "Medical" or "Safety" alert, the system immediately routes it to the nearest neighbors qualified to respond, turning the neighborhood into a real-time safety net.

How we built it: We built Synapse AI as a responsive full-stack application:

Frontend: Built with Next.js and React for a fast, reactive user interface, styled with Tailwind CSS.

Backend: A robust Node.js and Express environment, using MongoDB to store user "nodes" and geospatial data.

AI: We integrated the Gemini Pro API to power our matching logic. The AI models the compatibility between users to ensure safe and effective mentorship connections.

Real-Time Connectivity: We used Socket.io to power live messaging and instantaneous emergency alerts.
