Inspiration

We were inspired to create this app after viewing the first hand impact of the war between Ukraine and Russia. After seeing the aftershock of this event, we believed that it would be important for everyone to be able to have access to basic healthcare treatment and diagnosis information.

What it does

SymptomsExplained is able to help users identify potential diseases users may have based on the symptoms they are experiencing. Users start out by identifying symptoms they are feeling from a list of common symptoms. They are then sent to a potential diagnosis page where they can be informed of what disease they may have, and potential steps to take for treatment.

How we built it

We used React Native to create this app. This allowed our app to have optimal performance. This also allowed us to use JavaScript in our app for different back-end functionalities.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some challenges regarding connecting symptoms to potential diseases. It was hard to figure out how to determine what disease would be diagnosed based on the corresponding symptoms.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to create a completed working app that accomplishes our goal of connecting users to the diagnosis and treatment of potential diseases.

What we learned

We learned how to collaborate in order to create this project. We also learned how to develop an app using React Native. As this is our first hackathon, it was difficult figuring out the intricacies that are required when developing an application.

What's next for SymptomsExplained

We plan to take this project further by publishing the app as well as fully completing a list of relevant diseases. Additionally, we would want to fine tune our app by adding more symptoms and more accurately diagnose potential diseases. We also plan on spreading word of our app through the use of social media in order to provide access to more of the world.
