Inspiration
Inspired by Papers, Please, 1984, freeze frame games and the theme of "colour changes everything". We built upon and combined these concepts to create a game where symptoms manifest in the form of varying changes in colour and intensity of colour.
What it does
A simulator / puzzle game where you are a doctor and you are tasked with identifying patients with symptoms of a newly emerged disease which the government are hiding; set in a dystopia.
How we built it
Using Godot, and making our own art. Initially made the core gameplay - Noah decided to make the art and dialogue whilst Ben integrated the dialogue into the rest of the game to complete the game play loop.
Challenges we ran into
Inheritance posed challenges due to unbreakable signals but changed our approach to handling the scenes. Using Godot for the first time was challenging as we were both unfamiliar (Noah's first time) with Godot and game development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
First time developing a game, and completed the game. Felt like we came up with a unique idea that was relevant to the theme. Successfully working in a team using git and github.
What we learned
Creating UI, a game play loop, using Godot, design choices (such as styling and and art), git and github, working on a project in a team.
What's next for Symptom Of The State
Officially release the game.
