At the start of every semester, college students face the same tedious ritual: downloading five or six separate 10-page syllabus PDFs, manually typing dozens of deadlines into calendars, and digging through pages just to find an instructor's email or grading breakdown. Important dates slip through the cracks, attendance policies get overlooked, and comparing workloads across classes is nearly impossible when the information is scattered across different documents. We built SyllaView to eliminate the syllabus scramble and give students a single, trustworthy overview of their entire semester.

What it does SyllaView transforms static syllabus PDFs into an actionable academic hub:

Instant extraction: Automatically pulls course details, meeting times, assignments, grade weighting, office hours, and policies from uploaded PDFs. Semester overview grid: Compares classes side-by-side in aligned columns so students can evaluate grading scales, attendance rules, and late-work policies at a glance. Help Today hub: Shows which professors or TAs hold office hours today, indicates whether a session is currently active or upcoming, and provides one-click email drafting. Unified calendar and .ics export: Consolidates all assignment and exam dates into a synchronized view with one-click export to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, and Outlook. Source verification: Dotted underline citations hover to reveal the exact page number and open the original PDF to verify any extracted fact. Issue and conflict detection: Flags overlapping exam schedules, missing grade percentages, and contradictory dates so students can resolve them directly. How we built it SyllaView is built on a full-stack React framework using TanStack Start and Vite with TypeScript. The backend runs on Lovable Cloud, providing relational database storage, user authentication, and secure private file storage for uploaded syllabi.

Syllabus extraction and semantic search are powered by the Gemini model through server functions, processing multi-page documents and outputting structured JSON with page references for every extracted fact. The UI is built with Tailwind CSS and custom layout components designed with zero border-radius styling and clean typography (Plus Jakarta Sans and Inter) for a focused, legible desktop and mobile experience. End-to-end reliability was validated using Playwright and Vitest.
