Inspiration
Wanted to raise mental awareness and lower student stress levels to provide an easy, quick, and simple way of organizing a student's busy school schedule
What it does
Reads a pdf syllabi file and converts it into a new file that contains important due dates for homework, quizzes, & midterms
How I built it
We utilized Javascript, HTML, CSS, C++, PHP, jQuery.
Challenges I ran into
It was quite difficult to create a program that didn't incorporate a smidge of Machine Learning/AI (Image processing). In addition, another challenge was how we would be able to transfer our front-end content to our back-end and back again. In fact, there were quite a few times where we had to scrape our ideas.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Proud to be able to create a MVP that is able to read a very simple text file that highlights and detects keywords within a file in order to obtain important dates for assignments/exams.
What I learned
That there needs to be an improvement on the way our software reads in data and possibly a shorter run time.
What's next for Syllafy
To be able to include Machine Learning/AI and possibly find a way to link our software with Google Calendar
