Inspiration
Our mission is to eliminate food waste and build a better food system for everyone. We coordinate with local entrepreneurs/establishments to provide surplus produce and pantry items to local shelters/food banks (not-for-profit “businesses”/charities under section 170 of the IRS code). 40% of the food produced in the US goes to waste, that's roughly 168 billion a year. And yet 14% of U.S households are food insecure at some point during the year.
Businesses would also be incentivized to participate in this effort because as of 2015 ALL businesses are eligible for an enhanced tax deduction for certain contributions, including .. you guessed it, food donations to public charities.
What it does:
A platform to share and claim donations, based on geolocation.
How we built it:

What's next for Swoosh
This cause is not limited to the US, this platform could be used everywhere that has a food-waste story. Roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year — approximately 1.3 billion tonnes — gets lost or wasted. Food losses and waste amounts to roughly US$ 680 billion in industrialized countries and US$ 310 billion in developing countries.
With enough time we could use: Control API to inspect food quality Tomtoms geofencing/routing API to calculate distance/transportation of foods while utilizing Agoras RTM SDK to provide seamless communication regarding transportation status updates All the while using Yubico’s strong and easy-to-use authentication to keep track of all your donations and sensitive information that you will later use for tax-deduction/tax-credit purposes
