A desire to turn the lights off without getting out of bed.

What it does

Remotely controls the lights from your phone.

How we built it

We used a rack and pinion structure to mechanically flip the light switch. The gear is controlled by a servo motor and a raspberry pi. The box containing the gears and the gears themselves were laser-cut.

Challenges we ran into

Understanding how to use Flask, mechanical errors and malfunctions, our servo not being powerful enough

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Turning on a light.

What we learned

We learned how to interface with motors, how to use a new framework (flask), and how to use a laser cutter.

What's next for Switchy

Making it smaller, and adding voice activation.
