Inspiration
In this project, we were very inspired by the amount of data swiss authorities managed to collect over years. It is very pity that only a small share of it is used and not so many people are aware of open data collection. We created the "Swiss Quiz" to bring this data to people in a fun way and wake up their curiosity with many interesting facts about Switzerland.
What it does
Our app asks users quiz questions about business, education, politics, etc. Along with the right version, more details are shared and a link to the data source is included. So those who are interested in this topic in more detail could learn more from the original data.
How we built it
In each database, different variables were defined, and depending on the data structure few options of graph presentation were suggested. A combination of these variables was created to formulate questions. In this way, a database of questions was assembled, which was then used in the application along with graphs.
Challenges we ran into
In the earlier stage, it was quite time-consuming to work with different data structures, but later on, they were grouped depending on the variable, e.g. time series would have time variable and most of the datasets have also regional components.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A working prototype, a database of more than a hundred questions, and that we know now who is the current President of Switzerland.
What we learned
There cannot be too much data.
What's next for Swiss Quiz
It would be nice to automate question creation using NLP.
