🧠 SwipeDish – Hackathon Submission

🚀 Inspiration

Food delivery apps are functional—but boring. Gen Z and Millennials crave immersive, visual-first experiences like TikTok and Instagram Reels. We wanted to bring that same swipe-based delight to food discovery, turning meals into a game, an adventure, and a vibe.

🍽️ What it does

SwipeDish is a mobile-first food discovery and ordering app where users swipe through food reels (videos) and interact with dishes in fun ways:

Swipe right to instantly order
Swipe left to save to your “Wishplate”
Swipe up to view the next reel
Swipe down to change cuisine or location

Other core features:

Scrollable TasteFeed
Dynamic menus with dish panels
A gamified profile with achievements
A leaderboard of top foodies
Creator mode for food influencers
Real-time cart and wishplate interactions

🛠️ How we built it

Frontend: Built on Bolt.new with mobile-first responsive UI
Backend: Supabase for user authentication and real-time data
Media Hosting: Firebase Storage for hosting food videos
Payments: Razorpay integration
Animations: Lottie files for smooth microinteractions
AI (planned): Taste recommendation engine using OpenAI or custom embeddings

We focused on crafting a visually rich UX with intuitive gesture-based actions.

🧱 Challenges we ran into

Creating smooth, responsive swipe transitions
Mapping gestures to different outcomes (e.g., swipe vs. tap)
UI consistency across TasteFeed, menu, profile, and cart
Real-time updates using Supabase in a multi-view app
Balancing UX animations with performance on lower-end devices

Bolt.new enables rapid UI prototyping with surprising flexibility
Supabase makes real-time auth and CRUD operations simple
Designing for gestures is very different from clicks — it’s about feel, not just function
Gamification and user personalization dramatically improve stickiness
Simple microinteractions (Lottie) make a huge impact in user delight
