USING THE APP

if you guys want to test the app you must download Expo Go first from the app store then scan the QR code

Inspiration

Inspired by our passion to doom scrolling, we put our minds together to create swipe bites. An app that solves all our problems, what do I want to eat?

What it does

swipe bites allows the user to find where they want to eat that day without making it feel like a hassle. Just swipe left on what you don't want and right with what you DO want. Once you match with your dream restaurant, chat with Mr. Tasty who will give you that extra push to fill your belly.

How we built it

We built this app using react-native with Expo, allowing us to easily deploy an app that works on both IOS and Android. Yelp API was used to fetch all restaurant data and Google Gemini powers Mr. Tasty in encouraging users to check out nearby restaurants.

Challenges we ran into

Today couldn't have happen without some challenges. First off getting Gemini to work was an issue. The model found on the google site seemed to be out of date and didn't allow us to do what we wanted, but we got around it. Another big challenge was the formatting, everyone has different devices and tested the code on different size screens which causes the visuals to be off.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Honestly, the team is overall proud on how the final product came out. We started today not sure if we would of had anything up and running and ended it off with a finish product that we are proud to show off.

What we learned

React-native was a big learning factor today as none of us have used it before to make a mobile app. Fixing merge conflicts was a big task today we accomplished as we encountered a good amount of those situations today.

What's next for swipebites

Moving forwards we would like to incorporate an account/friends systems that allows you to link with your friends and see what's popular in your area. We would like to expand our explore page, allowing you to find more hidden spots in your area to try out.
