Inspiration
We’ve all been stuck in the endless cycle of “Where should we eat?” debates with friends or partners. Inspired by the simplicity of dating apps like Tinder, we wanted to create a fun and interactive way to make dining decisions faster and more engaging.
What it does
Swipe&Dine helps users discover local restaurants by swiping through curated options. Swipe right to like, left to pass, and match with friends to find a spot everyone agrees on. The app also offers filters for cuisine, price range, and distance, ensuring personalized recommendations.
How we built it
We developed Swipe&Dine using React Native for cross-platform compatibility and Google Places API for restaurant listings. The TypeScript backend handles user preferences and matching logic.
Challenges we ran into
Implementing real-time restaurant matching while keeping the UI responsive. Fine-tuning the recommendation algorithm for diverse user preferences. Integrating third-party APIs smoothly without performance lags.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully creating a sleek and intuitive swiping interface. Deploying a functional MVP that users can immediately engage with.
What we learned
The importance of balancing UX simplicity with feature complexity. Optimizing API calls to improve app speed and performance.
What's next for Swipe&Dine
Expanding restaurant details with user reviews and exclusive deals. Implementing social features like shared lists and voting options. Launching a premium tier for personalized concierge dining suggestions.
