Inspiration

Focus timers are useful, but staying focused can often feel like a chore. I wanted to make putting your phone down and focusing feel a little more emotional — and a little more fun.

That idea became SwingCat.

In SwingCat, a cat hangs from a swinging pendulum while you focus. Stay focused, and the cat makes it safely home. Leave your focus session, and the cat falls.

What it does

SwingCat turns focused time into a small world you build with cats.

Complete focus sessions to welcome more cats into your house. As you continue focusing, your collection grows, your house expands, and your focus history becomes a record of the time you chose to spend on what matters.

The app includes focus tracking, activity statistics, collectible cats, house progression, customization, and a Pro experience powered by RevenueCat.

How we built it

SwingCat is built with Flutter for iOS and Android.

Rive powers the interactive cat animations and pendulum experience. RevenueCat handles subscriptions and entitlements, allowing the free and Pro experiences to stay cleanly separated across platforms.

Firebase is used for analytics and crash reporting, while AdMob powers rewarded ads in the free experience.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was making SwingCat feel like more than just another timer.

The cat's movement, falling behavior, app lifecycle handling, animations, notifications, and progression system all had to work together without making the experience feel complicated.

Building a reliable subscription experience across platforms while keeping the product simple was another important challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm especially proud that SwingCat turns something as simple as a countdown timer into an experience with emotional stakes.

Instead of earning abstract points, your focused time becomes cats, a growing home, and a visible history of what you've accomplished.

I'm also proud of bringing animation, focus tracking, progression, monetization, and cross-platform subscription management together while keeping the core experience simple: start the timer, and keep the cat from falling.

What we learned

I learned how much small emotional feedback can change a utility app.

A timer can simply count down — or it can give you a reason to care about finishing what you started.

I also learned a lot about building and testing subscriptions with RevenueCat, managing app lifecycle behavior, and combining Flutter with native platform features.

What's next for SwingCat - Focus timer

I want SwingCat to grow into a small world that grows alongside your focused time.

More cats, more rooms, more items, new challenges, and more ways to look back on what you've accomplished.

The goal is simple: the more time you spend on what matters, the richer your life with cats becomes.
