Inspiration - The inspiration for "Swipe" came from the need to streamline professional networking in a more engaging and intuitive way. We noticed how difficult it can be for people in research or various fields of work to connect with like-minded individuals. Just like dating apps made connections simpler, we wanted to create a similar, user-friendly solution for networking, fostering collaboration and innovation globally.
What it does- Swipe allows users to register, input their areas of interest, research topics, or job focus, and easily find others who share similar interests. Whether you're seeking research partners, mentors, or collaborators, Swipe connects you with people who can help you grow your professional network in an easy-to-use, match-based format.
How we built it - We developed Swipe using React for the front-end, with Node.js and MongoDB powering the back-end. The core matching feature is driven by AI APIs, which analyze the user's bio and interests to provide personalized matches. The AI helps extract key information from user bios, making the matching process more precise and relevant.
Challenges we ran into- A major challenge was integrating the AI APIs effectively to analyze and match user bios in real-time without slowing down the user experience. Another hurdle was balancing the complexity of bio analysis with user-friendly profile creation. Fine-tuning the matching accuracy also required extensive testing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of- We’re proud of successfully implementing AI-driven matching based on user bios, which makes the app more intelligent and personalized. Creating a seamless, functional platform with real-time connections and a robust UI was a significant achievement. Most importantly, building an app that could make professional networking more efficient is something we’re excited about.
What we learned- We learned how to work with AI APIs and integrate them into a real-time system to improve user experiences. Additionally, we gained deeper insights into optimizing bio data for matching, creating an intuitive interface, and ensuring the system could scale efficiently while keeping performance high.
What's next for Swipe- Next, we plan to further enhance the AI-driven matching by incorporating more detailed analytics and interest-based filters. We also aim to expand Swipe to allow users to join networking events and groups, enabling community-driven connections. Plus, adding more features like skill-based matchmaking could further improve its usefulness.
