Inspiration
In these alarming times of COVID-19 pandemic, people are suffering throughout the world. Those who are tested positi- -ve have to be treated in the hospital with serious medications and treatment for weeks. But in some countries like India where the population is extremely high, access to hospital beds seems to be a rising concern for people from all sections of the society. People/patients tested positive travel from one hospital to another due to lack of beds. They spend their time ringing each hospital trying to book a ward. But most of the hospitals are filled and this information is not conveyed to people in a proper manner. Some of the patients even tragically lose their lives due to the ignorance of this underrated issue.
What it does
In order to avoid the hustle and bring ease into people's lives, we, TEAM CIPHER, have come up with the app called SWELP. As the name goes by, the very motive is to help people. Using this app, people can check out the availability of wards/rooms in hospitals before getting admitted. The app facilitates a sophisticated system where hospitals provide their availability. So people can plan according to it. Some might even have transportation problems, So the app provides the facility for transportation of patients to hospital.
How we built it
We built the app using Android Studio with the help of firebase.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was the time constraint. We had a much bigger plan to deploy but had to prioritise in order to pull out the best that we could do in the given time limit.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are happy with our endproduct that we achieved. Team coordination was smooth. Each of us efficiently worked with one another and we are happy for our teamwork.
What we learned
We have learned a lot during this experience and we have decided to improvise in upcoming hackathons.
What's next for SWELP
We plan to develop SWELP into a much larger community in the future where people in similar mindsets or mental conditions ca share their thoughts and feelings and interact with each other. This wont be restricted to covid, it will be expanded to all crisis affected people such as floods, wildfires, earthquakes, etc.
