Inspiration
I have always hated going to the Computer Science lab because it seemed dry, tight and suffocating to me. So I was very excited to see what changes would be made and that I could get a say as to new aspects that are incorporated.
What it does
This lab allows users to have collaborative spaces, individual workspace and caters to those who have their own computers and those who don't. It also has lounging space for students to take breaks and destress.
How I built it
I used the room sketcher app to create this design and bought a 3D model maker subscription.
Challenges I ran into
It was difficult setting up the structure according to the floor plans provided. There were also limitations in elements available such as types of desks and chairs.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of the overall turnout, the Live 3D version shows sections in a clear and creative way. I asked a couple of other students for things they would like to see in the lab and incorporated some of their ideas as well.
What I learned
Itès important to cater to a different type of student's needs, some students need quiet areas some need a little louder, some students need computers, other need empty space to work with their own laptops. Some need space to work in groups while others need for individual workspace. Also, adding tools such as tablets to cater to students' resources is quite important.
What's next for Sweet Computer Lab for Sweet Computer Science Students
Hopefully, this design is brought to life, or the key ideas such as nap, lounge, gaming, individual and collaborative workspace are incorporated in the new lab.
