Inspiration

I love playing badminton; however, I often get a headache during my games. While I am aware that I need to drink water to prevent headache, I sometimes forget to drink water, so I made this device as a reminder to drink water

What it does

This device can detect your body sweats, and the sweat triggers 15-minute alarm to drink water. After you drink water, the device will run a 30-minute alarm cycle because it takes around 15 minutes for the body to absorb water.

How we built it

I built by connecting a Grove GSR sensor, which is a device that uses two finger cots to measure the sweat and electrical conductivity of the skin. I programmed a 15 minute and 30-minute alarm clock cycle to notify to drink water based on the sensor readings.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge I faced was learning how to program the GSR sensor to detect whether the fingertip is sweating or not.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of building a fully working device. It is annoying to get headache while enjoying exercise, so it is a nice device to keep your body hydrated.

What we learned

Through researching about hydration, I learned that losing just 2% of body water can drop an athlete's performance by 30%, which taught me the importance to stay hydrated. Water can do more than preventing headache.

What's next for HydrOFlow Band

I want to code the device to alarm based on how much I lost body water rather than just a fixed timer.
