Inspiration
We wanted to tell an interactive story about how our class raises funds for class activities, by immersing the user in a game.
What it does
It's a simple side-scrolling single-platform game to entertain you when you're bored. Or it may allow you to enjoy the satisfaction of catching someone swearing red-handed without feeling judged.
The goal of the game is to spend the most amount of time on the game (collecting money in the swear jar) without dying internally and externally. We wanted to accurately capture the meaninglessness of both real life and an endless gameplay, and also to encourage the use of a swear jar to curb the use of inappropriate language in school.
There are five characters you can choose from as your avatar, each with different attributes. The antagonist of the game is a single angry person who swears randomly. Your obstacles are teachers who will distract you from following the antagonist and collecting swears from them through conversations with you.
Also, don't fall off the edge of the "map".
How we built it
Inspired by a true story, we modelled characters after the people in our lives and put them into the game as the player. We drew characters and art then exported them into the side-scrolling game written in Python using the very simple Arcade game engine.
Challenges we ran into
We wanted to protect the identity of the antagonist so we decided to not reveal his name.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully insulted .
What we learned
Nothing
What's next for Swear Jar
Nothing. Unless you want a legit version?
