In the recent crisis related to Covid a multi skilled Workforce turned out the biggest asset to ensure critical operations continuity within the technological and geographic limitations. This inspired us to bring in more resilient within the teams through remote cross Skilling to enhance more business Continuity through SWAT.

Inspiration:

The corona virus puts an extreme burden on small and local businesses shifted our attention to some particular, very prevalent problems related to the resources in the business to cater to the demand caused due to the pandemic outbreak. Many establishments are struggling on the thought on how to get resources to run the business and stay afloat. Many people have become unemployed because of the outbreak and they stay without an avenue for revenue for months, these people stuck at home are willing to support to the best of their ability and explore resources in other companies if they have excess and can share (rent) them with other companies that lack of similar resources. So, our intuition was to bring our focus on possibly finding a way to kill two birds with one stone and provide a neat solution that both facilitates the emergence of a side income source for unemployed individuals or businesses and assist the businesses in covering the demand in terms of requirements. Our absolute priority is to help these businesses and all the people involved with them and to ensure their very existence. For this purpose, we have been working day and night and have come to the following solution in the formation of a team "SWAT", which solves these problems:

What it does:

During the outbreak of COVID-19, many organizations were struggling on how to get resources to run the business as there was a lack of skilled resources available due geographical or technical restrictions. Many skilled resources could not be utilized as there was no venue for them to capitalise their skills leading to lack of income and organizations take huge impact on their profit. The SWAT concept ensures identifying and sustaining a cross skilled resource base which will yield a very low cost yet very effective in-house solution that just does not only ensure Business Continuity instead it also caters to the seasonal volume trends within the organization with optimum staffing. The SWAT also provides a venue for organizations or individuals to share/ lease their excess resources to other companies. The companies who hire these resources benefit by getting additional resources and the organization benefits by generating revenue by leasing out their excess resources creating a win-win situation for both. Over and above the employee are also more engaged as they are able to acquire more skills and enhance their portfolio through these programs.

How I built it:

The concept of SWAT has helped us to expand the flexibility of employees. When as an organisation, we started Work from home due to COVID - 19, we cross skilled our workforce immediately on multiple processes which has enabled our team to manage the volumes and serve the customers in a quicker way. The model will definitely bring Value Add to the business as operating efficiency of the individual/team will increase. Because of which even when work volume in one process reduces, the staff can cut across and immediately work on the other areas. As the business across the Globe has been highly impacted by COVID - 19 pandemic, our SWAT model will play a pivotal role to sustain the business, by fully utilising the existing employees of the organisation. All rounders of our organisation have stepped up at the need of hour and SWAT model has been highly appreciated by our stakeholders and are being adopted across multiple realm.

Accomplishment that I'm proud of:

A multi skilled resource model to tackle any crisis within an organization. A model in identifying the required resources who can be utilised to maintain business continuity or any crisis without impacting the business. A very low cost yet very effective inhouse solution that just does not only ensure Business Continuity instead it also caters to the seasonal volume trends within the organization with optimum staffing Builds the employee engagement with the organisation by empowering the individuals and teams to multi dimensional learning and exposure; thereby creating a more competent and confident workforce This model is applicable to all the service sector industries and with a bit detailed evaluation can be deployed for other industries like the manufacturing / IT industry if needed – the essence is skills can always be acquired
