All around us, we saw middle-class families who could get by day to day, but medicines were a cost they couldn't absorb. They'd put off buying them until salary day, or until the business made a profit. For a recurring need like medicine, waiting isn't a plan. It means skipped doses, delayed treatment, and health problems that get worse and cost more later. These families aren't poor enough for aid, and they aren't comfortable enough to ignore the bill. They fall in the gap. Nivora exists for that gap: a way to save for medicines a little each month, so the money is already there when the need comes. What it does Nivora helps families save for and get their medicines every month, without waiting for payday. Nearby store alerts: when a medicine is needed, Nivora notifies nearby medical stores so the order reaches someone who can fill it fast. Home delivery: the medicines are delivered to the patient's given address, which helps elderly or sick patients who can't go out. Smart reminders: alerts for refills and doses, so nothing is missed.
How we built it?.. Nivora is a web app with a React frontend and a backend that handles users, medicine lists, savings, and orders. Frontend (React): patients add medicines, set a monthly saving amount, and place orders with their delivery address. Backend + database: stores user profiles, medicine schedules, savings, and order status. Location matching: uses the patient's address to find nearby medical stores and sends them the order request. Notifications: alerts stores about new orders and reminds patients about refills and doses. Delivery flow: the first store to accept fulfils the order, and it's delivered to the patient's address with status updates. Challenges we ran into?.. Real-time store matching: finding nearby medical stores and notifying them fast, without sending the same order to too many at once. We had to decide who gets the order when several stores respond. Keeping it affordable for families: the whole point is helping middle-class families, so the savings and ordering flow had to be simple and low-cost, not another expense. Trust and safety around medicines: people hand over health needs and addresses, so we had to think about verified stores, correct medicines, and privacy of patient details. Reliable delivery to any address: handling incorrect or incomplete addresses and keeping order status clear for the patient. Building fast: fitting the full flow (savings, reminders, store alerts, delivery) into hackathon time meant deciding what to build now and what to leave for later. Accomplishments that we're proud of Solving a real problem we saw around us: Nivora started from watching middle-class families wait for payday to afford medicines, and we built something aimed at exactly that gap. A complete flow in one app: monthly savings, refill reminders, nearby store alerts, and home delivery all work together, from "I need this medicine" to "it's at my door." Connecting patients with local stores: instead of a big warehouse, orders go to nearby medical stores, which can mean faster delivery and business for local shops. Built under hackathon time: we took it from an idea to a working product in a short time. Built with a social impact focus: it's aimed at families who fall between aid and comfort, who often get overlooked. What we learned Real problems start with real people: talking to families and watching how they actually handle medicine costs shaped Nivora more than any feature idea we started with. Simple beats feature-heavy: for users who are stressed about money or health, a clear flow (save, remind, order, deliver) matters more than a long feature list. Local networks are powerful: connecting patients with nearby medical stores can be faster and more affordable than relying on one big supplier. Trust is part of the product: with medicines and home addresses involved, privacy, verified stores, and clear order status aren't extras. They're what makes people use it. Scoping under time pressure: we learned to decide what must work in the demo and what can wait for later versions. What's next for Nivora Verified store network: onboard and verify more local medical stores, so every order goes to a trusted pharmacy. Prescription upload: let patients upload a prescription and have stores confirm the medicines and prices. Payments and savings wallet: connect the monthly savings to UPI so the saved money pays for the order directly. Smarter reminders: refill predictions based on how much medicine is left, plus family profiles so one person can manage a parent's medicines. Wider reach: pilot in a few neighborhoods in Bengaluru, then expand to other cities, with support for regional languages. Partnerships: work with local clinics, NGOs, and pharmacies to bring costs down for families who need it most.
