What is Swarm?
Swarm is a web planner that makes organising meetups just that tad easier. Struggling to find a time where everyone is free? Team members showing up at the wrong time? With a clear and simple interface, it is perfect for students, work professionals or any casual events. What sets Swarm apart is that we ask users to input the times when they are unavailable – we have found that it is easier for people to think of the hours when they are busy rather than think of all the hours that they are free. Our solution also offers flexibility and allows all members of a meetup to edit the details, rather than associating one main host to create an event. Any change in time will automatically update the best time for everyone to meet. Finally, aided by our fun, custom illustrations, bright colour palette and clean UI design, Swarm offers an intuitive interface that allows for a cheerful user experience.
What's in a name?
As is common knowledge - without bees, life on Earth would not be possible. Therefore, it is essential that bees come together and collaborate. Bees are also known for their hard working nature, hence the name 'worker bees' for users. Inspired by these qualities, we decided on the name 'Swarm' to represent the seamless teamwork of our users facilitated by the simplicity of scheduling meetups through our web app.
Our process
The UI design for Swarm was created in Figma, while all illustrations, imagery and iconography were custom-made by our designers in Adobe Illustrator. Once the mockups were finalised, our developers used VS Code to develop the code using Javascript, HTML and CSS. 'Creating an event' was one of the most challenging to create; specifically the 'Choosing your unavailability' function. This involved multiple code revisions, and rigorous live testing on multiple devices to ensure the components were functional. Lastly, the video was made in Adobe Premiere Pro with custom effects and the audio was recorded by one of our members. The end result is testament to the hard work and collective effort from our team.
