Inspiration
The idea for Swaranjali was born out of a desire to create a more inclusive world for individuals with hearing and speech impairments. Witnessing the challenges they face in daily communication inspired us to bridge the gap with technology. We wanted to make learning sign language accessible, engaging and empowering for everyone—whether it's for personal use or fostering inclusivity in society.
How we built it
Swaranjali was developed as a mobile application with features tailored for effective sign language learning:
Offline Mode ensures learning without internet dependency. Personalization allows users to track progress and customize their learning journey. Gamification makes learning fun and interactive through quizzes, challenges, and rewards. Multilingual Support enables learning sign languages across various languages and regions, making it globally inclusive. We utilized modern app development frameworks, database systems, and user-friendly UI/UX principles to make the platform seamless and intuitive.
Challenges Faced
One of the primary challenges was understanding the nuances of different sign languages and integrating them effectively into the app. Ensuring accurate representation of signs while maintaining simplicity for learners required extensive research. Additionally, building offline capabilities and gamification features that worked cohesively demanded rigorous planning and technical innovation. Despite these challenges, our team remained committed to the vision of making Swaranjali a transformative learning tool.
What we learned
Throughout the journey of building Swaranjali, we gained deep insights into the importance of accessibility and personalization in technology. We also learned about the diversity within sign language systems and the need for multilingual support. Additionally, we discovered how gamification and interactive learning can enhance engagement and retention.
