Inspiration
Ahoy, mateys! We are The Card Match Corsairs, and we’re excited to present our pirate-themed matching card game, Swabbies Memory Quest. As first-time hackers, we navigated through rough waters to bring this game to life. Our goal was to create a fun and challenging way for players to test their memory while immersing them in an engaging pirate adventure.
What it does
Swabbies Memory Quest is a classic memory-matching card game with a lively pirate twist. Players flip over cards to find matching pairs, aiming to complete the game in as few moves as possible. The game keeps track of the number of moves, encouraging players to sharpen their memory skills with each round. Designed to be simple yet challenging, this game is perfect for players of all ages, whether they’re beginners looking to improve cognitive skills or anyone in search of a quick mental workout.
How we built it
We built Swabbies Memory Quest with a focus on accessibility and ease of use. Our development process involved: Frontend: Designing an intuitive interface so players can dive right in without needing a tutorial. Backend: Managing game logic to track moves and ensure smooth gameplay. Integration: Combining these components to create a functioning game As first-time hackers, we had to learn new technologies quickly, experimenting with different approaches to connect our frontend and backend effectively.
Challenges we ran into
Building this game wasn’t all smooth sailing! One of our biggest challenges was linking all the game components together. As beginners, integrating the frontend and backend proved to be trickier than we expected, and sometimes, things just didn’t work the way we wanted. We had to adjust our original plan multiple times and scale back some features to meet the deadline. Despite these setbacks, we adapted, problem-solved, and leaned on each other’s strengths to keep moving forward.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished! Even though this was our first hackathon, we successfully created a functional and fun game. Overcoming technical obstacles, learning to work as a team, and refining our problem-solving skills were major achievements for us.
What we learned
Throughout this journey, we learned a lot about coding, debugging, and the importance of teamwork. We gained hands-on experience in integrating different technologies, troubleshooting unexpected errors, and managing our time effectively. Most importantly, we discovered how valuable perseverance is when tackling complex problems.
What's next for Swabbies Memory Quest
This is just the beginning for Swabbies Memory Quest! In the future, we’d love to add more features, such as:
- Different difficulty levels to challenge players further.
- A timer-based scoring system to encourage competition.
- Enhanced animations and sound effects to make the game even more immersive.
