Inspiration
We were inspired by a very personal story. My friend’s uncle tragically passed away due to poor data circulation in a hospital system. The monitoring system failed to flag descending blood oxygen and heart rate in time, which led to complications that weren’t treated early enough. This painful event exposed a critical gap in medical monitoring, and it inspired us to create SVAI — an AI system designed to make sure that no vital sign goes unnoticed.
What It Does
SVAI analyzes patient data in real time and immediately flags any abnormalities. It connects to the same detectors already used in hospitals (for heart rate, oxygen levels, etc.), but adds a layer of intelligent monitoring and a 24-hour chart for better visibility.
Additional features:
Emergency Wallet: Quick access to ID, medical notes, and emergency contacts.
Continuous Monitoring: Vitals are tracked and flagged for staff in real time.
Patient Safety Dashboard: A clear chart of health trends for faster decisions.
How We Built It
We built SVAI with a focus on speed and practicality due to the hackathon’s time constraints:
Backend: Python (for data handling and simple AI logic).
Frontend: HTML + CSS (for clean, lightweight visualization).
This stack allowed us to quickly connect detectors, process data, and visualize it in a way that’s intuitive for medical staff.
Challenges We Ran Into
Time Constraints: With only a short window, we had to prioritize core features.
Implementation Gap: Translating our big idea into working code was tough.
Small Team: With only two people, dividing frontend and backend was a challenge.
Accomplishments We’re Proud Of
Even though the prototype isn’t as sophisticated as our final vision, we’re proud that:
SVAI already works for its primary purpose — monitoring and flagging vital issues.
We’ve built the foundation for an innovative healthcare safety tool.
We turned a personal loss into a solution that could protect many families in the future.
What We Learned
This was our first hackathon, and the experience was invaluable:
How to take an idea from concept to implementation.
The power of teamwork, trust, and splitting tasks effectively.
The balance between innovation and practicality when time is limited.
What’s Next for SVAI
We plan to evolve SVAI into a personalized AI healthcare companion:
AI + Machine Learning: Advanced anomaly detection and predictive alerts.
Conversational AI: Patients will be able to interact with SVAI, e.g., “Hey, SVAI” → check vitals, provide emotional support, or alert staff.
Mental Health Integration: Since many patients feel isolated and depressed, SVAI will also provide basic check-ins, reminders, and companionship.
Our long-term vision: No patient should ever feel alone or uncared for — physically or emotionally.
