Inspiration

I love shopping online using online shopping platforms like Amazon, American Eagle Outfitters, etc. but I could not figure out where sustainability came into the picture.

What it does

This ecommerce site allows users to buy and sell sustainable items. Each item is allocated sustainability points by the owner based on SUY guidelines. The item added to be sold is then bought by the customers. Each item bought can gain points to win free goodies. Hence, it is a win win for both parties involved.

How I built it

I used Cloudfare Pages and workers for hosting and redirection. For the front end I used React JS, HTML, CSS, Javascript. For the backend I used Google Cloud Platform and Firebase authentication and storage.

Challenges I ran into

The app currently works on all platforms except Apple devices. I hope to extend the app to Apple in the future. I had redirection issues with image uploading by the buyers if there are multiple buyers.

Accomplishments that I am proud of

The app is completely responsive and accessible by everyone. The app with its buyer info, sign in info for authentication and product info are all in the cloud. Hence, it is very robust.

What I learnt

I learnt about Cloudflare pages and workers. It was the first time I used wrangler. I increased my knowledge on React Routers.

What's next for SUY (Sustainable Buying)

I hope to extend the app to Apple devices. I hope to cache the images using Cloudflare’s R2 feauture.
