Inspiration
The medical field is a constant source of inspiration, particularly in the realm of surgical applications that rely heavily on knowledge and decision-making. After engaging with resident and senior surgeons, we recognised a pressing need for a collaborative platform for learning and record keeping.
What it does
SutureLogs is a specialized platform designed exclusively for surgeons, offering solution for sharing, collaborating, and learning from surgical procedures. Each surgical log on the platform includes procedure videos, AI-generated transcripts and sections, synchronized patient vital data, detailed patient information, and accompanying notes.
The platform goes beyond mere documentation, providing surgeons with valuable learning opportunities through AI-generated scenarios, interactive quizzes, and helpful flashcards. Think of SutureLogs as the equivalent of GitHub, but tailored specifically for the surgical community. It also includes semantic search where surgeons can query in plain English to find unique cases.
The platform fosters a sense of community that promotes ongoing learning and keeps practitioners up to date with the latest surgical methods and techniques.
How we built it
The platform is built on the following tech stack
Frontend : Written in Svelte using TailwindCSS.
Backend : ExpressJS for CRUD tasks, Flask to serve LLM functionalities such as semantic search.
Database : MongoDB Atlas. Easy to setup and helps especially in apps like suturelog where the data requirements are always growing.
Hosting : Google Cloud Compute Engine
AI : OpenAI GPT 3.5
What's next for SutureLogs
The aim is to get real world feedback for the product so that it can be refined and used in production. Having a repository of surgical documentations will allow improvement in decision-making, and enhance surgical analytics.
