Inspiration

This is our submission to the Migros HackZurich 2021 Challenge "Play with us for our planet", a challenge to help steer people's shopping decisions towards being more sustainable.

We started by exploring the problem space and asked ourselves: "Why is chaning habits so hard, especially since increasing sustainability seems to be such a noble goal." We quickly identified several challenges such that the impact of certain shopping decisions might simply be not that visible to customers or that alternatives are just not known during their shopping trips. We then settled on our problem statement of how to support customers to discover more sustainable product and how we may ever so slightly nudge them in that direction.

We then explored the solution space and quickly converged on the idea of having a personal digital assistant that not only provides you with valuable suggestions just in time during your shopping trip but that also represents your personal growth with regards to sustainability by directly showing the impact of your buying decisions.

What it does

To do this, we developed an Android app that provides just in time feedback when you scan product, pulls live data from the Migro product database, creates recommendations based on the scanned product and provides you with a lovely character that helps you on that journey.
