Inspiration

Sustainability is an issue in our fast paced society that does not pay attention to the smaller aspects of living. We created Sustainify to empower individuals and communities with the knowledge and tools to make sustainable choices.

What it does

We decided to create Sustainify, a place where people can learn about sustainability, and easy "life hacks" to implement sustainable practices in their daily lives. These practices aren't hard, and we aim to meet people where they are, offering practices they can realistically implement, because we firmly believe that doing anything is far better than doing nothing.

How we built it

We used VS Code to create an HTML and CSS project to display a user-friendly website. We also implemented a extractive summarization model from Hugging Face to generate summaries for the articles we presented under our articles page.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into various challenges during this project ranging from formatting issues with text in CSS to larger issues with implementing the extractive summarization model.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the UI/UX design that we have presented on our website. We are also proud to be able to say we have dipped our toes into the AI world by successfully using an AI model in our project, which is something neither one of us have prior experience with.

What we learned

We learned how to create an interactive and clean user interface through various parts of the website as well as how you are able to use existing AI models to elevate the user experience.

What's next for Sustainify

We would like to publish this website for usability and to reach an audience in the near future. This is something we plan to do after implementing more features such as a monthly newsletter that will be sent by email registration as well as features integrating more AI usage like a sustainability calculator that determines how sustainably a person is living based on their daily practices. Another feature that might appear in the future is an AI chatbot on the home page to foster a user's curiosity on sustainability.
