Inspiration
Our inspiration for Sustainify came from the need to provide practical and affordable solutions for people, specifically college students, to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. We wanted to create a platform that not only educates and inspires people to be sustainable, but also makes it easy and accessible for everyone.
What it does
Sustainify is a sustainability website that provides practical tips and resources for affordable sustainability. It also offers a unique feature that shows a variety of plants categorized by their cost for people to plant at home. Users can browse through the different plant options, learn about their care and maintenance, and choose the ones that fit their budget and lifestyle. In addition to this, users can learn more about different sustainability options such as how to recycle and eco-friendly modes of transportation.
How we built it
We built Sustainify using a combination of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ReactJS.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we faced was finding a way to categorize plants based on their cost while ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information. We also had to ensure that the website was user-friendly and accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds, which is why we aimed for a simple UI-UX layout.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of ourselves for creating this functional website within a 24 hours time period, which for us was difficult as we would be stuck with portions of code for hours on end. We feel accomplished as aspiring software developers for creating something that people can use to create a more sustainable environment.
What we learned
Throughout the development of Sustainify, we learned a lot about sustainability, the importance of accessibility in web design, and the challenges of integrating all this information into a single platform. We also learned about the different types of plants and their care requirements, which will help us with our own sustainability journey in the future.
What's next for Sustainify
In the future, we plan to expand our database to include even more affordable and sustainable options for people to choose from. We also want to create another page to incorporate user feedback to continually improve the website's features and usability. Ultimately, we hope to inspire more people to live a sustainable lifestyle and contribute to a greener future for everyone.
