Inspiration
The world is at a very pressing time in which sustainability needs to be addressed, and technology is playing a huge role in driving solutions all around the globe. I was inspired by the potential of artificial intelligence to help individuals and communities make smarter, eco-friendly decisions. SustainAIble was born out of our passion to create a tool that empowers users to take meaningful action toward a more sustainable future.
What it does
SustainAIble uses AI to record user habits, preferences, and activities to make personalized recommendations that reduce environmental impact. The app makes environmentally conscious decisions easier-from suggesting ways to save energy to suggesting alternatives in products for sustainable living.
How I built it
I built SustainAIble by using HTML, CSS, JSON, and JavaScript. The HTML was used in order to get the text, the CSS to style, and the JavaScript to handle the functionality of the website, including the AI responses. I wasn't able to turn it into the app, but if I win the hackathon and gain some money, I will be able to afford the OpenAI API, Google Cloud Console, and be able to convert everything into React Native in order to build a functioning app based on this website.
Challenges I ran into
Data Quality: Finding accurate and reliable sustainability datasets posed a challenge. Integration Issues: Integrating AI models seamlessly into the app required significant debugging and optimization. User Experience: Designing an interface that is both informative and engaging without overwhelming the user took several iterations.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Successful creation of an AI-powered recommendation system that will yield practical, actionable suggestions. Building an aesthetically pleasing, intuitive app that can make sustainability approachable in any context. Overcoming the integration challenges so that the application works well and is efficient.
What I learned
The balance of technical innovation with user-centric design is crucial. How to work with sustainability data and tailor AI models to interpret it effectively. Development therefore requires resolution of unexpected technical difficulties through collaboration and adaptability.
What's next for SustainAIbe
Expanded Feature: Add the carbon footprint tracker and gamify to enhance user engagement. Partnerships: Partner with eco-friendly brands and organizations to provide exclusive offers and incentives. Mobile Application: Provide a mobile version for easy access anywhere. Community Engagement: Provide a platform where people can share their experiences and tips on sustainability. Global Impact: Localize the app to support sustainability efforts around the world by region-specific recommendations.
