Inspiration

We recognized that many people have high-quality, gently-used clothing items that they no longer wear, while others are in search of unique and affordable clothing options. By creating a platform that connects these individuals, we aim to promote a more sustainable and ethical approach to fashion.

What it does

Our innovative website offers a convenient platform for users to buy and sell gently-used clothing items. Users can easily post their clothes to swap or sell and browse listings organized by categories such as style, size, and condition. To decrease the amount of clothing waste, users can earn credits from selling items; users may also pay by traditional payment methods.

How we built it

We utilized web scraping techniques to gather data on clothing items and ensure that our listings are up-to-date and accurate. We utilized the Python web framework Flask, which enabled us to create a web application that is user-friendly and promotes sustainability.

Challenges we ran into

We discovered that the images address we uploaded were not displaying correctly on our website. To solve this issue, instead of inputting the image address, we downloaded the images and uploaded them to a folder within our project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the steep learning curve that we experienced throughout the development process. We created our first web application while gaining familiarity with HTML and Python. Also, we are proud of how resourceful we were throughout this project, finding resources online to solve problems that were encountered throughout development.

What we learned

During the development process, we gained valuable knowledge and experience that will be beneficial to us in future projects. One of the most significant areas of growth for us was in learning about Flask, a framework in Python that enabled us to develop a functional and dynamic web application. Finally, our work on HTML helped us to create functional and visually appealing websites that meet the needs of users.

What's next for Sustainable Swaps

We are excited to enhance the user experience by incorporating APIs. One area of interest is integrating Google Maps into our platform, which would allow users to connect with others in their area by displaying buyer and seller location. Additionally, we hope to expand the range of items available on our platform to appeal to a wider audience and increase sustainability and accessibility.
