Inspiration

With the rise of renewable resources, it is important for members of the community to see the potential their cities can have on fighting global warming. We wanted to create an application with a simple UI that displays potential renewable resources in an area.

What it does

Our application helps determine to best type of renewable energy resource to implement based on the city inputted. It displays each recommendation as a percentage for easy comparison and lists statistics to justify the results.

How we built it

We gathered different values like climate conditions, population, GDP, and more for the inputted city. Using these values, an estimated wattage per dollar cost was calculated and normalized to compute percentage recommendations for different types of renewable resources.

Challenges we ran into

We had to call multiple APIs to retrieve all the data we needed. Also determining which factors are key in finding potential renewable resources was difficult. It was also our first time using Flask!

What we learned

We learned about different environmental and political factors that go into determining a good renewable energy source to use. We also developed our Python and Flask knowledge.

What's next for Sustainable Spot

Including more types of renewable energies and more factors to accurately give recommendations.
