Inspiration The increasing impact of consumerism on the environment inspired us to create a solution that encourages people to make eco-friendly shopping decisions. We wanted to bridge the gap between sustainability and convenience, empowering users to make informed choices without compromising their lifestyle.

What it does The Sustainable Shopping Assistant is a smart application that helps users identify environmentally friendly products and brands. It integrates seamlessly into online shopping platforms, providing insights on product sustainability, carbon footprint, and ethical practices. Additionally, it suggests alternatives for non-sustainable products and tracks users' progress in reducing their environmental impact.

How we built it We built the assistant using a combination of machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) to analyze product descriptions and reviews. The backend leverages Python with Flask/FastAPI for handling requests, while the frontend is developed using React for an intuitive user interface. We used APIs to fetch product data and integrated sustainability databases to verify eco-friendliness.

Challenges we ran into Data acquisition: Finding reliable and comprehensive sustainability data for products was a major hurdle. Algorithm accuracy: Fine-tuning the machine learning models to provide accurate and meaningful recommendations required significant effort. Integration: Ensuring smooth integration with various e-commerce platforms presented compatibility challenges.
