Inspiration
This project was motivated by the requirement to advance sustainable and eco-friendly travel habits. The motivation behind this web-based platform is the goal to lessen carbon footprints, assist local communities, and improve accessibility for all passengers.
What it does
The web-based platform, built with React JS, Tailwind, and Framer Motion, offers a variety of features to give consumers a seamless and ecologically conscientious travel experience.
- It promotes carpooling by connecting travelers for shared trips, so lowering their carbon footprint. It also offers adjacent riding options, such as bike paths and rental services, for sustainable mobility.
- The platform also connects users with local guides who may make recommendations for environmentally friendly travel.
- It provides a database of area restaurants that employ organic, locally sourced ingredients, thereby supporting the farm-to-table idea. The installation of text-to-speech capability prioritizes accessibility, ensuring an inclusive user experience.
- The portal presents eco-friendly lodging options, sustainable activities and attractions, and tips for environmentally responsible packing.
- It also offers travel planning tools such as trip planners, and interactive maps for environmentally friendly travel.
How we built it
The platform was created utilizing React JS for user interfaces, Tailwind CSS, and Framer Motion for animations. This mix of technologies enabled the creation of a responsive and visually appealing web-based platform. These frameworks were used to develop components, design UI, and implement various functionality. Furthermore, we employed backend technologies to handle storage, and the APIs required for integrating external services.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating multiple technologies seamlessly, ensuring a smooth UX, implementing text-to-speech functionality for accessibility, gathering and managing data for the directory of local restaurants and sustainable activities, and curating relevant and accurate information for the platform's recommendations were some potential challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Among the project's achievements is the successful development and deployment of a web-based platform with a comprehensive set of features supporting sustainable travel. We are pleased to have included text-to-speech technology for a more inclusive user experience. Curating a database of eco-friendly accommodations, sustainable activities, and attractions, as well as the effective development of travel planning tools like itinerary builders and interactive maps.
What we learned
We learned a lot about designing responsive and visually appealing UI, successfully managing and displaying data, introducing accessibility features, and incorporating interactive aspects using animations throughout the development process. We also discussed about the problems and issues that come with encouraging sustainable travel and assisting local communities through technology.
What's next for Sustainable Safari
The project's following steps include more improvements and expansion. We're thinking about obtaining user feedback and making changes based on their experiences and suggestions. We will also look towards partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and travel-related services in order to broaden the platform's offers, expand its reach, and attract a larger user base.
