Inspiration

Our website was influenced from the article, https://nutritionsource.hsph.harvard.edu/sustainability/, which revealed that many people did not know that food sustainablity was such a big issue and those who knew did not know how to resolve the issue and how to eat sustainably.

What it does

Our goal is to create a website that addresses food waste, promotes environmental sustainability, and encourages people to eat healthier. Our program will offer a substitute that is both ecologically friendly and closely related to the user's initial selection when they input a specific food item they're interested in eating more sustainably. In this manner, consumers may make more informed dietary choices that simultaneously improve their health and the environment.

How we built it

We made this website by first using spring initializer to create a zip file, then we unzipped the file in Visual Studio Code and added another file to the folder for our backend, where we used java and the __ API to retrieve our information. On the other hand for the frontend we created a files inside static and wrote our structure in HTML, our style and font settings in CSS, and our functions and how they worked in Java script.

Challenges we ran into

Our API would not work since it was not connected properly. When it did work, we realized it was a one time use API and we had to change it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was our first hackathon and we are very proud of it. We were able to make a mostly functioning website and we are proud to have done in such a short time and competitive environment.

What's next for Sustainable Food Recommender

Our next step is to design and develop a user-friendly login page that allows users to create accounts and securely access personalized features. This login system will make it easier for users to save their preferences, track their sustainable food choices, and see old food recommendations
