Inspiration

Since shopping for clothes is my interest, I was inspired to develop a research paper to introduce the available measures for the sustainable textile industry. Through some searching on the internet, I found it even more necessary to dive deeper into the fast fashion industry. Some overall data is recorded: There are up to 17 million tons of textile waste ending up in landfills each year, which is equivalent to more than 200 years needed to decompose them (https://www.roadrunnerwm.com/blog/textile-waste-environmental-crisis). The textile industry and fast fashion, in particular, have become the second most polluting industry in the world, right after oil. While many people rely on fast fashion, governments can help reduce their harmful effects by deciding some intentional measures to control.

What it does

My research paper mainly focuses on the impacts that the fast fashion industry has on the environment, as well as goes further into how we can solve the related problems.

How we built it

I did my research through related articles on the internet and cited important information. I used Canva to design the pictures in the research paper.

Challenges we ran into

This is the first time I worked on a research paper individually, thus I had to develop the ideas and find related information by myself with the constrain of time. I’m proud of getting my research paper done within less than a week, having learned so many new things about fast fashion.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m glad that my research paper can somehow provides useful information about fast fashion, the harmful to the environment, and measures to control it.

What we learned

I learned several skills of making a research paper and developed my knowledge of how my attitudes relating to fast fashion can affect the environment. I also learned to manage time. Managing my time while working on this project was a struggle for me. Because there were so many workshops and other class events that were going on, I frequently had to lack time working on my project.

What's next for Sustainable fast fashion brands

I would read more related documents and add more useful measures to the research paper if I had more time. In the future, I'd like to fully implement some of the measures that I didn't have time to do today, such as the ways to change customers’ attitudes to fast fashion.
