Inspiration
In creating this project, I was inspired by the sustainability idea listed in Devpost and wanted to incorporate something that could encourage users to develop sustainable habits.
What it does
The Sustainable Fashion Brands Filter is an application where users can select what kind of fashion they're looking for. Whether it be affordable, for modest clothing, one owned by a minority, etc. they can use the dropdown menu in order to input/select what they want. After clicking the button, a list will generate sustainable fashion clothing brands under the category they want. This app will hopefully promote users to pursue more sustainable clothing options, being that there's a large variety, and also given the fact that the list generated is all sustainable.
How we built it
I built this using javascript, HTML, and CSS, through code.org.
Challenges we ran into
I struggled, in the beginning, to come up with an idea, but once I decided on one it definitely became easier. Occasionally, there were some issues with the user interface (i.e text area boxes were allowing users to type in the boxes when viewing the application which shouldn't be allowed) but they were easily fixable.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm happy that I was able to do most of it by the deadline, as I was worried that developing an idea and creating the user interface/js code would take up too much time, especially considering I was doing other assignments for school. I'm also happy that this app only allows sustainable fashion brands to be shown, therefore, the users using this will be more incentivized to choose sustainable options in terms of waste.
What we learned
I learned more when designing the user interface, and I also learned Github since this was my first time with it. When I exported the files as a zipped file, I had trouble importing it into GitHub, but I found a workaround and ended up adding the zipped file but also separate files for different items (like the html and javascript code, or css).
What's next for Sustainable Fashion Brands Filter
I would definitely be open to the idea of further developing this website so that it can incorporate more functionality and maybe even be published as an actual website. For example, it might be even better if users could select more than one option or category.
