Inspiration

We were inspired by websites like https://goodonyou.eco/ , being able to find out the sustainability of companies with a fine tooth comb. But what if you wanted sustainability at a glance? Without having to do all the searching, just with one click? This is what EcoGuard Pro is all about.

What it does

EcoGuard Pro scrapes the webpage, finds out what company made the product, the materials of the product and how they are made. From this, it generates a score from 1 to 100, 1 being bad and 100 being great at sustainability, as well as details on why it believes this score is suitable for the product or company.

How we built it

Through the use of Chatgpt API, we are able to input our webscrape into it, with the conditions of sustainability and the metrics it should use, and output a score and details. We used the cursor platform as well as chatgpt to aid in our code, sussing out errors and bugs with the knowledge we have.

Challenges we ran into

As we don't have much in terms of coding, we struggled to turn our ideas into reality. Initially, we wanted to create an OCR app that works offline, that can help students with ASD and vison impairment in their learning. However, we lacked the hard skills to bring that idea to reality. Hence, we pivoted, going for a solution that we all care equally about, but a solution that is far more achievable for our abilities.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team from different degrees, different years and having never known each other prior to this hackathon, we're proud of how well we worked together. Despite having differing time commitments, we were able to divvy up the work fairly, ensuring everyone is pulling their own weight. By being proactive in singling out tasks that we'd be better at, be it HTML, writing or web scrapping, we ensure that we put our very best into the solution we've came up with. We're so proud of what we've done despite the challenges that we face.

What we learned

We've learnt to use AI to empower our coding abilities, and to use our knowledge on coding to sus out errors and hallucinations that may come up through the AI generated code. We've learnt how to integrate Chatgpt API and others like it into projects such as a browser extension. We've learnt to adapt to time commitments, and to be proactive in our work. We've learnt we work great as a team, despite our varying backgrounds.

What's next for EcoGuard Pro

Many updates are in EcoGuard Pro's future. We aim to align EcoGuard Pro to industry standards on sustainability and to provide more specific information at a click, as well as partnering with various organisations and government entities to bring EcoGuard Pro to its very best.

  1. Partnering with NGOs to create an AI application that is specifically trained for sustainability, able to sus out the sustainability practices of companies more thoroughly, with metrics based on current industry standards for sustainability.
  2. Partnering with government agencies, such as NEA, to bring word to our project and to fund its continued development. ...and so much more.
