Sustain-A-Bot

Some of our commands in action!

Inspiration

As students who regularly use Discord, we were entranced by the idea of modifying the regular bots into something that can teach and educate others. For this Hackathon, we seized the opportunity and created the Sustain-A-Bot!

What it does

Through multiple commands introduced in the <help menu, students can access various facts regarding NYS, sustainability, and our environment! Additionally, our bot can detect specific words or phrases in conversations that students engage in, including "bike" or "h2o", and provides fun facts that can make a difference!

How we built it

We used a model video to guide us through the complicated process of creating a multi-functioning bot. (Link to the video we used ^^: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPTfmiYiuok)

Challenges we ran into

Regular challenges included common indentation and syntax errors. Not to mention, we were relatively new to Python, so trying to trace back our errors became difficult at times.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our ability to resolve these complications in the end. Our struggles have taught us a lot about Python and the structure of code.

What we learned

We learned how to apply Python to create something even we could use in our daily lives. Additionally, our research allowed us to learn some new facts regarding NYS's fight for sustainability.
