Inspiration
We wanted to build something close to our heart and personal to us as students in Santa Barbara. As students, convenience often trumps over the right thing to do, and what better way to make sustainable living convenient than with an app?
What it does
A guide to sustainable living in Santa Barbara. It tells you places that are eco-friendly in Santa Barbara that you can go to for food/drinks/fun/work.
How we built it
We built it with Swift in Xcode in combination with the Google Maps API.
Challenges we ran into
Swift is not an easy language to learn over the course of a weekend.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The app works! We split up the work to conquer different parts of the app simultaneously and put it all together to make it work.
What we learned
It's really good to have a game plan before you start working on the app so that it's an efficient use of time, especially with a 36 hour time constraint. We also learned how to use Swift and one of Google's APIs!
What's next for Sustain-3.0
Integrating the ability to follow links to open Google Maps on your phone to guide you to the marker'd places on the map.
