Inspiration

We understand that sometimes talking through text can be difficult, as it can be confusing to understand the emotions one conveys without hearing how they say it themselves. There are also times when you can't tell if something is a real opportunity and when something is too long to read, you miss important details. This is why we created SussanahAI, as her purpose is to help people communicate tone and sentiment more effectively in text, condensing paragraphs, detecting spam, and analyzing emotional tone, sarcasm, and expressions without relying on emoticons. It aims to convey nuanced meaning anytime, anywhere.

What it does

SussanahAi is essentially a tool that allows users to enter any paragraph of text. The tool has 3 options: sentiment analysis, spam detection, and text summary (SSS). When a user submits, the AI processes the paragraph. The sentiment tool shows a pie chart displaying the emotion of the text (positive, negative, neutral). The spam tool uses a pie chart to indicate if the paragraph contains spam. The summary feature condenses the paragraph into a brief overview capturing the main points.

How we built it

We built it by coding using the Co:Here API, which provided us with the functions of AI analysis that we established in our AI. We first created a mock-up of our project through Figma, then created the front-end with React and Javascript. Our back-end was created using Flask.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge we ran into was our project time management. In the beginning, we didn't specify our roles or set deadlines so we found ourselves to not be working on the project as much. However, after we established roles, we were able to start our project much more smoothly. Another challenge we ran into was integrating certain features such as displaying the chart for the spam results. However, after looking it over, we were able to resolve it and have it work in our project. Connecting the front-end and back-end was also difficult at first but we were able to have that work as well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Overall, we are very proud of being able to present this project as it did take quite a bit of time for us. One big accomplishment we're proud of is integrating the API properly as it was a sole part of our project.

What we learned

We learned new skills such as using React, Javascript, and Flask, and how to integrate APIs. Outside of technical skills, we also learned about the importance of time and team management.

What's next for SussanahAI

In the future, if we were to continue this project, we would add more features such as expanding upon the sentiment feature. We would hopefully have the AI be able to differentiate between more defined emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger, etc. Also, we would have it be able to detect more complex wordplay such as sarcasm. Another feature we would like to add is to have the AI be able to offer suggestions based on what was given. Instead of just giving back numbers or a chart, it could be able to also give suggestions on how to improve the text for better comprehension, etc.
