Introducing Sushikshya: Revolutionizing Learning through Augmented Reality!

The problem Sushikshya solves :

Currently, our learning system does not offer active learning. We read many books in day to day life but we can't visualize everything we read. Let us take an example. In a village of Gorkha, there is a kid named Rahul who is in grade 2. His teacher is teaching him about aeroplane. He just looks at the 2D picture printed in a paper and concludes how an aeroplane looks like. Now I will ask a question, do you really think that kid really understood how an aeroplane looks like? Well it's not possible to get the exact image from 2D and students can't get out the most from what they have seen.

Solution:

The solution we propose is simple and effective. We offer visualized based learning with our book Susikshya. Susikshya is not just a normal book. Yes, it looks like a normal book but it has a wow factor, a unique value proposition i.e. embedded AR models. In Susikshya, like in a normal book, we have 2D images and plain text but below down, there is a core AR feature. Under AR feature we have 3 buttons

  1. Preview Model: It projects a 3D model on top of the 2D image of the topic under study.

  2. Animation: It plays a 3D animation of the procedural explained under the topic e.g. working of heart

  3. Video: It plays a full explanation video on a virtual screen which can only be viewed from our application or AR glass.

Impact:

Using our systems, students like Rahul can not just study about aeroplanes, they can see the real 3D model of an aeroplane just in front of them in virtual space and undoubtedly get the most out of what he has been taught. It's follows active learning approach.

AR is the future technology that will take a rapid height in coming years and our country Nepal should not lack behind to implement the endless possibility this technology is going to bring out.

Challenges we ran into:

Working on this project was fun and so much exciting. But at some point we just could do nothing beside digging the brain to solve few bugs that arise. The one that gave us most trouble was lack of auto camera focus in AR camera in Vuforia SDK. We tried every optimization but our progress was nowhere near. Eventually one guy appeared as a god in unity forum and told the brilliant idea of writing AUTOCAMERAFOCUSCONTROLLER script in c# and add it to Vuforia SDK configuration and boom it worked. The happiness of ours was of next level.

Beside that animating a heart model was also a challenge for us which we solved together in a team. Lastly, we got stuck on one point for about 1 and half hours. Well what happened was our virtual button was malfunctioning and we were unable to figure out why. We tried everything, searched every documentation, stacks overflow, google, unity forum but couldn't find the answers anywhere. After an hour of unsuccessful attempt when we were looking at our prefabs and found a strange thing. There was a virtual button overlapped with another and that was giving the issue. So such a silly mistake gave us a serious headache but finally we did that. Beside these we didn't faced any major issues and overall project went great and full of excitement.

This is not just a book; it's an educational revolution. Our cutting-edge AR technology grants learners access to a dynamic realm of knowledge, surpassing the limitations of conventional methods. As AR technology advances, Sushikshya is poised to stay at the forefront, ensuring that the young minds of Nepal and beyond remain prepared for the future. Join us in transforming education, harnessing the potential of AR to unlock a new era of active, immersive, and effective learning.
