Inspiration

A game called The Attic that I wrote a long time ago in which you are in your dead grandfather's house trying to find a family heirloom.

What it does

Survive the Elements is a choose your own adventure text-based story game where you are trying to survive in a forest full of secrets. The console asks you questions about your next move and describes your surroundings.

How we built it

The game is coded in Python using Replit. I used a lot of if statements and a lot of imagination.

Challenges we ran into

I originally tried to make a platformer in Scratch with a compelling story and original artwork. And while I can do the story part and the art part great, the platformer part was not working out. I worked on that original project unsuccessfully for five hours before I finally gave up and went back to brainstorming. It was really scary staring from scratch after using up half the time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

When my original project failed and I couldn't find any more good accomplishable ideas, I was very closing to just asking my mom to pick me up. I'm proud that I pushed through and even when I had no ideas, I kept thinking. I'm also proud of making a finished project in half the hackathon's time

What we learned

Keep pushing through! Sometimes your brain hits a wall and you try to break it but can't, so you keep trying!

What's next for Survive the Elements

Who knows? I love this game format because it's so easy to expand. Maybe I'll add more to the current game, or make a sequel where your hot air balloon crashes on yet another mysteriously deserted area.
