The inspiration for Mind Haven came from recognizing the growing mental health crisis, especially in a world that’s becoming increasingly stressful and fast-paced. Many people struggle to find accessible, affordable, and stigma-free mental health resources. I wanted to create an app that combines technology with compassion to provide guided meditation, mood tracking, peer support, and crisis intervention resources—all in one platform.

Empathy in Design: Understanding the needs of users facing mental health challenges and ensuring a supportive, calming interface. Mental Health Frameworks: Learning about effective practices like CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), mindfulness, and peer-support strategies. Privacy and Security: Prioritizing user data protection, given the sensitivity of mental health information. Community Building: Exploring how digital platforms can foster meaningful, positive interactions in peer support groups.

Designed wireframes and an interactive prototype using Figma to ensure smooth navigation and a welcoming aesthetic. Features included Mood Tracking, Guided Meditation, Peer Support Groups, and Crisis Resources. Development:

Built the front-end with React Native to ensure cross-platform compatibility for iOS and Android. Used Node.js and Express for the back-end to handle data securely. Integrated APIs for guided meditations and crisis hotline databases. Testing:

Conducted user testing with a focus group to refine the app’s tone, features, and accessibility. Incorporated feedback to improve the app’s functionality and emotional resonance.

Key Features Mood Tracker: Allows users to log their emotions daily and view trends over time, offering insights into mental well-being. Guided Meditations: Provides audio and video meditations for stress relief, focus, and better sleep. Peer Support Groups: Connects users in moderated, anonymous groups to share experiences and find encouragement. Crisis Resources: Offers immediate access to professional helplines and local crisis intervention centers.

Challenges Faced Designing for Sensitivity: Creating an interface that felt supportive and non-triggering required extensive user feedback and iteration. Data Privacy: Implementing secure encryption and ensuring GDPR compliance for sensitive mental health data was challenging but crucial. Community Moderation: Developing effective moderation tools to ensure safe and respectful interactions in peer support groups. Scalability: Balancing robust features with a lightweight app design to maintain performance on all devices.
