Inspiration

Inspired by Surrounded by Idiots, we wanted to explore what happens when four distinct personalities tackle the same problem. Instead of one AI answer, you get a conversation between different perspectives.

What it does

In our terminal application we bring together a cast of personalities characterized by Thomas Erikson's Red, Green, Yellow, and Blue archetypes. Dubbed The Idiots, Ruby, Bleu, Lemon, and Jade, bring to life the strengths of diverse problem solving. As the user you can steer the conversation, participate alongside them, and resume saved discussions. The user experience is meant to be fun and interactive -- not just reading LLMs at four times the output. The idiots are brought to life by hand-drawn sprites in Aseprite with animations too! We offer a fun combination of settings to let you balance between exaggerated personalities and productive conversations.

Finally, when you think the conversation is worth wrapping up, tap into the power of Korg! Who creates two annotated flowcharts of your conversation with annotations by each of the Idiots.

How we built it

We built a local TypeScript app with React and Ink. A shared discussion engine coordinates model calls and speaking turns, while hand-drawn Aseprite animations bring each character to life. Korg then brings out the value of the conversation by providing exportable implementation and decision flowcharts into Excalidraw.

Challenges we ran into

Coordinating agents without letting them talk over each other was tricky. We also had to keep streamed responses, user interruptions, and character animations in sync.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We turned a terminal into a lively discussion space with distinct personalities and animated characters. Agents share context, reconsider their replies, and leave room for the user to participate.

What we learned

Good multi-agent conversations need thoughtful turn-taking and user control—not just different prompts.

What's next for the idiots

More expressive characters, smoother conversations, and more ways to explore ideas together. OAuth with major AI vendors to bypass the bring your own key model.
