Inspiration
Majority of the food companies have surplus food which is thrown away everyday. This food can instead be donated to the local shelters, which can use it to feed the needful.
What it does
Our app facilitates this donation and, in return, puts the donating company on a leaderboard along with other donating companies. This helps improve their company image. The way it works is simple:
- A company logs onto our site and fills out a short donation form outlining the details of their donation.
- Then, they select a local shelter they will deliver the food to.
- The local shelter, upon receiving the delivery, can confirm it via their own login on the website.
- Once the delivery is confirmed, the company is added to the leaderboard based on the number of meals given and the monetary value of the meal.
How we built it
We used a combination of own code and used cursor to generate parts of the code in order to make a functioning local app.
Challenges we ran into
Deploying the app and making sure that all the functions work such as leaderboard.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud of our idea to help reduce and repurpose food waste. Which in turn solves a part of the food shortage for the poor.
What we learned
We learnt how to use certain development platforms such as cursor, git, github, and how to utilize api in our project.
What's next for Surplus-Saviour
We hope to establish a public access domain and make the site available globally so that our Idea can be used to minimize food wastage as much as possible and feed as many people as possible.
