Inspiration

Hair transplant procedures are expensive and life-changing decisions. Many people considering the procedure struggle to visualize what their results might look like. We wanted to create a tool that helps people see their potential transformation before committing to surgery, reducing uncertainty and helping them make more informed decisions.

What it does

SurgicalAI is an AI-powered hair transplant visualization tool. Users upload a photo of their current hair condition and receive a realistic prediction of their post-transplant results. The app generates a 12-month progression timeline showing the transformation from grafting day through final results, giving users a complete picture of their journey.

How we built it

We built SurgicalAI using Next.js 14 with React and TypeScript for a fast, modern web experience. The UI was crafted with Tailwind CSS and Shadcn/ui components for a clean, professional look. The image generation is powered by AI to create realistic hair transplant predictions. We focused on a simple user flow: upload, generate, compare.

Challenges we ran into

Creating realistic AI-generated predictions that look natural was difficult. We also had to balance image quality with loading times. Designing the before/after comparison and progression timeline in a way that clearly communicates the transformation without overwhelming users required multiple iterations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created an intuitive interface that makes complex AI technology accessible to anyone. The 12-month progression timeline gives users a realistic expectation of the gradual transformation process. The before/after comparison section provides immediate visual impact that helps users understand potential results.

What we learned

We learned that visualization tools can significantly impact decision-making for medical procedures. We also gained experience in handling image processing, building responsive UIs, and creating user experiences that balance technical capability with simplicity.

What's next for SurgicalAI

We plan to add multiple hairstyle options, different graft density predictions, and cost estimation features. We also want to integrate with hair transplant clinics to provide consultations directly through the platform and add support for different types of hair restoration procedures.
