Inspiration:

Flight disruptions leave passengers uncertain about their options and next steps. We built SurgeAir AI to help airlines respond faster, explore alternatives, and keep passengers informed when travel plans change.

What it does:

SurgeAir AI is an AI-powered airline disruption assistant that evaluates passenger needs, explores alternative flights, and supports rebooking decisions. It is designed to coordinate passenger updates across SMS, WhatsApp, RCS, and email.

How I built it:

I built SurgeAir AI using AWS services, Amazon Bedrock, and the Amazon Nova 2 Lite model. The prototype combines AI orchestration, flight-disruption scenarios, passenger preferences, and an operational dashboard, with a fallback mechanism for testing and resilience.

Challenges I ran into:

Integrating AI reasoning with flight alternatives, passenger preferences, and confirmation workflows was challenging. Connecting AWS services and ensuring the application remained usable when live AI orchestration was unavailable also required careful testing.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of:

I integrated Amazon Bedrock, implemented an AI-assisted disruption workflow, and developed an operational dashboard to demonstrate how AI can support airline operations. I'm proud to have turned the concept into a working prototype.

What I learned:

I learned that effective AI agents require more than a language model. Reliable workflows, clear decision rules, error handling, human confirmation, and thoughtful integration are equally important.

What's next for SurgeAir AI Assistant

Next, I plan to integrate reliable real-time flight data, strengthen alternative-flight evaluation, expand passenger communication, and improve operational monitoring. The long-term goal is to help airlines manage disruptions efficiently while keeping passengers informed and in control.
